Summary of the 4th Akbrecht Müller ARRIGE webinar devoted to RNA editing

The 4th Albrecht Müller ARRIGE (AMA) webinar explored the biology, applications and challenges of RNA editing approaches versus current DNA editing techniques. On 07 May 2025, ARRIGE organized the fourth webinar in the Albrecht Müller series, whose name honours one of the founders of the ARRIGE association who passed away in 2019. This edition was prepared in collaboration with the ROPES European Project (ROles of ePitranscriptomic in diseasES). The webinar received a considerable amount of interest within the scientific community and triggered the registration of over 230 participants globally, with around 150 actively participating. This was one of the best-attended Albrecht Müller webinars organized to date.

Vision for the Future of ARRIGE: A Message from New President Hervé Chneiweiss – January 2025

Hervé Chneiweiss

As the newly elected president of ARRIGE, I would first like to express my deep gratitude to Lluis Montoliu for his outstanding leadership and commitment to promoting the values of ARRIGE, and the out-going members of ARRIGE board Jennifer Merchant, François Hirsch, Julian Kinderlerer and Bonginkosi Shozi for their dedication.

Several initiatives, including the regular Albrecht Müller Days, annual meetings, the biannual newsletter, and the important work of the ARRIGE Scientific Committee, first chaired by Gaétan Burgio and more recently by Martina Crispo, have been instrumental in building the foundation of our organization and raising awareness about the importance of responsible genome editing.

It is my priority with our renewed board to ensure continuity in these successful actions, maintaining their quality and expanding their reach as we move forward.

Building on this foundation, our future efforts will focus on three key priorities:

1. Continuity and Growth of ARRIGE’s Established Initiatives
We will maintain and grow ARRIGE’s hallmark initiatives, such as the Albrecht Müller Days, annual meetings, biannual newsletters, further strengthened by Communiqués and Statements from the Board and Opinions from our Scientific Advisory Board. These platforms are invaluable for sharing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and advancing the global conversation on responsible genome editing. We will also explore innovative ways to expand their impact, ensuring they remain dynamic and relevant in a rapidly evolving field.

2. Strengthening Public Engagement and Education
ARRIGE will amplify its efforts to engage with the public, fostering an inclusive dialogue on genome editing technologies and their ethical, societal, and global implications. We will expand our outreach programs, host more interactive forums, and collaborate with educators and media to ensure accessible, transparent communication about genome editing. By enhancing public understanding, we aim to build trust and empower diverse communities to participate in shaping the future of this transformative field.

3. Preparing the Next Generation
A core focus will be to inspire and involve the next generation of researchers in responsible genome editing. ARRIGE will actively mobilize PhD students and early-career scientists, providing them with platforms to explore ethical considerations, engage in interdisciplinary discussions, and connect with experts in the field. By fostering their awareness and commitment to the ethical dimensions of genome editing, we aim to “pass the baton” to future leaders who will continue to uphold ARRIGE’s mission.

By combining these priorities, ARRIGE will continue to serve as a global beacon for responsible research and innovation in genome editing. Together, we can shape a future where science, ethics, and societal well-being go hand in hand as this powerful area of science and its supporting technologies advances.

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the founding Board of the Association for Responsible Research and Innovation in Genome Editing (ARRIGE),  I am most happy to announcethe launching of the ARRIGE membership registration. From today, April 1st, 2019, roughly one year after we held the ARRIGE kick-off meeting in Paris, we will be gladly accepting your requests to formally become a member of ARRIGE.

How to become a member of ARRIGE?

Registration Forms – They can be filed through the ARRIGE web site

Payment – After you fill your Registration Form (Step 1), you can pay your annual membership (in euros) (Step 2), via Paypal (using the form or directly with ARRIGE PayPal account at treasurer@arrige.org) or from your bank app by bank transfer (in such case please send an email to treasurer@arrige.org to be provided with bank details). Payment information can be found in this web site.

Why do we need ARRIGE?

  • Because ARRIGE is the most international of all existing initiatives discussing the responsible use research and innovation of genome editing techniques around the world. In Paris we already gathered delegates from 42 countries, including African, South American and Asian delegates.
  • Because we need to address the various and multidisciplinary issues related to or impacted by genome editing, not only focusing on human embryos. With ARRIGE, we extend the discussions to gene drives, intellectual property issues, GMO vs non-GMO, safety and security issues, biotechnological applications for agriculture and livestock, safe and efficient innovative gene therapies for patients, therapies vs enhancement, ethics issues, laws and regulations, etc…
  • Because there is no satisfactory platform engaging all kinds of public – public engagement platform – which is involved in the field of genome editing. At ARRIGE, we believe that education and dissemination of reliable news on genome-editing for experts, but also for patients associations and the lay public is fundamental to allow for democratic debates in the context of the emergence of a technology that bears the potential to revolutionize many aspects of our societies. We would like to use the expertise of ARRIGE to develop/assist in developing public engagement projects.
  • Consequently, we envisage the creation of expert multidisciplinary groups to tackle all these issues with input from all over the world, with the idea of creating genuine expertise and a real task force.

Why joining ARRIGE?

To be part of this initiative and be able to contribute with ideas, materials, guidelines, recommendations, protocols suitable for each one of the potential uses of genome editing, taking into account the views of all stakeholders. We will also plan to regularly organize meetings to discuss and progress in all these topics, and to help you to organize events on these topics locally. Forthcoming meetings are already planned in Paris November 2019 and Vienna January 2020.

ARRIGE members will be subscribed to a new email list (different from this one) and we will create spaces and resources for the efficient and operative discussion of all working groups.
